Vegas is only 6 days away.

Today, we received in our email the particulars about the trip.  This info includes who we are rooming with, check-in time, expense policy, and a code of conduct (CoC).  The CoC is a pretty generic corporate document that was written to cover as many situations as possible.  I'm sure that lawyers had a major say in what went into the doc as most of the rules' only reason for being it to keep Microsoft from getting sued.

So what we really need is a Vegas focused Code of Conduct that contains a heavy dose of common sense.  So here's my list:

Alcohol: Vegas was built by its owners getting otherwise reasonable people to do stupid things.  A major component in this plan is alcohol.  Drinks flow like water in Vegas casinos.  Be careful.  Don't drink too much or you will likely do something stupid.  It happened on the other off-sites.  Don't let it happen to you.

Sleep:  Vegas goes 24 hours, 7 days a week.  You can't.  Get some sleep.  You know when your first appointment in the morning starts.  Count back at least 7 hours from that time as an absolute stopping time.  That will allow you 5-6 hours of sleep.  If you can't stop at that point, ask yourself if playing is a problem.

Shower:  It will be so easy to lose track of time.  The casinos have no windows or clocks for a reason.  Leave time for personal hygiene.

Hookers:  I know this is a company thing and many from the company will be reading it and some will think that I shouldn't mention anything about prostitutes, but they are there.  In fact, they are abundant.  They may also be an attraction to some.  Others may be unaware.  Let me just put it this way:  We will be several hundred strong.  Don't think you can do anything without being seen.  And if a great looking woman starts chatting you up in a bar, she may not be.  And even if she is a she, she is likely not interested in you for your looks.  Be nice, but be smart.  Adhering to the rule about Alcohol will help here as well.

Gaming:  The mark of a quality person is the way they handle adversity.  As Horace said, "As a rule, adversity reveals genius and prosperity hides it."  Don't try to be too much of a genius.
